At the Isabel Davis Center for Safe Children, we believe that scientific discovery must go hand-in-hand with action. Through education, training, and compassionate care, we provide tools for professionals, families, and communities to help prevent unexplained child deaths and support those affected by them.

Parent and Caregiver Support & Education

What We Offer:
We provide safe sleep education and materials through community health fair outreach and the Positive Interaction Program (PIP) with the Houston Police Department across Houston’s most underserved neighborhoods. Our services include:

  • ABCS of safe sleep (Alone, Back, Crib, Smoke-free)
  • Free cribs or pack-n-plays when needed
  • Help addressing cultural norms and barriers
  • Bilingual educational materials and support
  • Ongoing community-led conversations

Bereavement Support & Family Services

What We Offer:
For families who have lost a child unexpectedly, we offer:

  • Grief support referrals to our trusted partners
  • Free memorialization gifts (quilts, jewelry, etc.)
  • Memorial events to honor your child
  • Optional, respectful participation in research
  • A future physical space to connect with other families

Training for Law Enforcement & Death Investigators

What We Offer:
An internationally recognized, evidence-based course in infant death scene investigation. Taught by experts in forensics, pediatrics, and neuroscience, this two-day training equips officers and medicolegal professionals with:

  • Best practices in scene documentation
  • Doll reenactment and evidence collection
  • Trauma-informed parent interviewing
  • Use of a SUID Investigation Reporting Form
  • Grief support referrals and family engagement

Medical & Public Health Professional Education

What We Offer:
Workshops, CME presentations, and webinars for physicians, nurses, and child fatality review teams on:

  • The latest research in SUID/SIDS/SUDC
  • AAP recommendations
  • Understanding physiologic risk markers
  • Recognizing social and environmental determinants of health
